Directions For Importing Emails From Gmail To Outlook

Gmail is a webmail service. According to some statistics, it is the most widely used webmail service in the world. Like all other webmail services, you sign in to your Gmail account via your web browser. You need active internet connection to do anything in your Gmail account. If the internet connection is interrupted, you won’t be able to log into your Gmail account or view any email messages in the inbox.

By importing all your email messages from Gmail to Microsoft Outlook, you can view all the inbox messages in the Outlook inbox. You can operate all Outlook features except sending and receiving emails when there is no internet connection. So, once you have your emails in Outlook, you can read them even if there is an internet outage. The changes you have to make in your Outlook setting in order to import emails from your Gmail account are discussed below.

Instruction
  • First of all, you need to add your Gmail account to Microsoft Outlook. For this, log into your Gmail account and navigate to Gmail Settings.
  • Select the tab labelled Forwarding POP3/IMAP. Under this tab, you will see the option to enable POP3/IMAP email forwarding. Verify your email protocol. It should be either IMAP protocol or POP3 Protocol. You should add your account to Outlook based on the email protocol. Once the email protocol is added to Outlook, it will be enabled to import email messages from your Gmail inbox.
  • The major difference between POP3 and IMAP protocols is that the former allows email client applications like Outlook to import only the copies of the emails. On the other hand, IMAP Protocol enables the email client to synchronize the account. While using POP3 protocol in Outlook, you will be able to delete email messages from either of the inboxes without impacting the other. On the other hand, while using IMAP protocol, you won’t be able to delete messages from one inbox without affecting the other.
  • Once you are done with modifying Gmail settings to enable IMAP/POP3 forwarding, launch your Outlook application. Go to the Outlook setting and make necessary changes in it to start importing the email messages. Remember, you need to have active internet connection in order to import emails from Gmail in Outlook.
With the help of the above instructions, you would have enabled Outlook to import emails from Gmail. You can enable Outlook to import emails from any of your favourite webmail accounts in the same manner.
